Bagrati Cathedral

The most famous cathedral of Kutaisi began to be built on a mountain above the Rioni River in 1003. The scale of the temple is amazing.

Since 1994, the temple has been part of UNESCO, but after restoration in 2012, it was excluded from the list.

From the cathedral's territory, you will see beautiful views of the city, river, and mountains.

Monastery Motsameta

The monastery is situated on a hill three kilometers from Kutaisi. From the observation deck you can see the mountain gorge, the surroundings, and the Tskaltsiteli river. You can also go inside and see the relics of Saints David and Constantine.

Gelati Monastery

Just 2 kilometers further along the same road is the Gelati monastery complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

David the Builder founded it in 1106. At the entrance to the monastery you will see his grave: this is a flat stone, on which you can walk. By doing so, the king expressed humility.

The complex includes several buildings: a temple, a bell tower, and an educational academy. Here you can see many valuable exhibits showing the richness of Georgian history and culture. The frescoes and mosaics in the monastery are recognized as the best in all of Transcaucasia.
